Derek used the spare key and walked them all inside.<\/p>\n

That night, after they settled into my beds and pulled my clean sheets over themselves, the security system activated.<\/p>\n

Lights flashed.<\/p>\n

Sirens roared.<\/p>\n

Water sprayed.<\/p>\n

Doors locked.<\/p>\n

They had ignored the warning, entered a house they did not own, and trapped themselves inside the consequences.<\/p>\n

For six hours, they lived inside the chaos they had created.<\/p>\n

At dawn, the system shut down.<\/p>\n

The doors opened.<\/p>\n

They stumbled onto the lawn soaked, shaken, and stripped of every bit of arrogance.<\/p>\n

My phone rang immediately.<\/p>\n

Victor\u2019s voice was hoarse.<\/p>\n

I answered calmly.<\/p>\n

\u201cSorry, Dad. Must be a glitch in the anti-theft system. Next time, don\u2019t break into someone else\u2019s home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I hung up.<\/p>\n
