The resort, flights, jewelry, and private boat were only the latest charges.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"61\">Worse, one transfer had been made on the morning Maya entered the hospital, after Claire received the school nurse\u2019s first warning message.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"62\">Claire recovered first. \u201cThat foundation belongs to the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"63\">\u201cNo. It belongs to the children it serves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"64\">She smiled coldly. \u201cAnd who will believe you? Julian controls the books.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"65\">\u201cI control the company that employs him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"66\">My father left me fifty-one percent of Northbridge Holdings. Claire received a title. Julian received a salary.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"67\">They had mocked me for staying behind the scenes, never realizing every corporate account, audit trail, and board vote ultimately ran through me.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"68\">That afternoon, while they accepted condolences, an independent audit team entered headquarters. Julian\u2019s access was frozen.
