At the end stood the house, built of limestone, glass, and Carolina timber, wide and graceful against the ridge, with terraces facing the mountains and tall windows catching the late afternoon light.<\/p>\n<p>The Harpers stepped out of their vehicles one by one, and their faces told me more than their words ever had. Paige forgot to smooth her dress. Wesley stared at the front doors as if the house might explain itself if he looked long enough.
