PART1: While packing my maternity bag, I discovered my CEO husband’s secret diary hidden among baby clothes—filled with private photos and handwritten notes about the woman he had never stopped loving.

PART 1

I was thirty-four weeks pregnant when I found the black leather notebook.

I wasn’t snooping.

I was preparing my hospital bag in our Manhattan penthouse and reached into the back of Flynn Vance’s travel cabinet to find my passport.

Instead, my hand touched a diary wrapped inside one of his expensive dress shirts.

Flynn was the CEO of Vance Global, the kind of man business magazines described as brilliant, ruthless, and untouchable.

At home, however, he had another favorite word.

Emotional.

“Pregnancy has made you dramatic, Mabel.”

He said it often enough that I had almost started believing him.

Then I opened the diary.

The first photograph showed Flynn kissing a beautiful blonde woman beside Lake Como.

The date printed beneath it was three months after our wedding.

Her name was Selina Cole.

His first love.

More photographs followed.

Paris.

London.

Aspen.

Trips Flynn had told me were for business.

Then I reached the handwritten pages.

Mabel is useful. Stable family. Good image for investors.

My fingers went cold.

I turned another page.

Once the merger closes, Selina and I can stop hiding.

Then I found the sentence that changed everything.

Mabel’s pregnancy complicates things, but she’ll never leave. She has nowhere to go without me.

I sat completely still.

Flynn had made one enormous mistake.

He had never bothered to understand who I was before becoming his wife.

Whenever someone asked about my career, he casually told them I had “worked in finance.”

That was technically true.

But incomplete.

Before marrying Flynn, I had spent nine years structuring acquisitions and protecting wealthy family offices during complicated corporate disputes.

And there was something else Flynn had conveniently forgotten.

The Manhattan penthouse he liked to call his?

It wasn’t.

Several important voting shares that helped keep him in control of Vance Global?

Those weren’t his either.

They belonged to a trust created by my late grandfather.

A trust I controlled.

Flynn had simply assumed that marrying me meant eventually owning everything connected to me.

At 9:14 that evening, my phone buzzed.

A message from him.

Board dinner. Don’t wait up.

I stared at the screen.

Then I photographed every page of the diary.

Every picture.

Every note.

Every date.

After that, I called my attorney.

“Phoebe?”

“Mabel? Is everything okay?”

“I need you to activate the emergency provisions tonight.”

Silence.

Then:

“All of them?”

I looked down at Flynn’s diary.

“All of them.”

At eleven that night, I packed one suitcase, my maternity bag, and the notebook.
