He was rewriting her baby’s identity as though both mother and child had already become his property.
When the service ended, an elderly woman with a cane approached Ethan and handed him an envelope.
“She would have wanted the truth to be known,” the woman said.
Ethan’s smile vanished for exactly one second.

Hours later, a copy of the memorial program was delivered to Claire’s hospital room.

“He knew about the baby before you did.”
The investigation soon turned toward Dr. Harrison, the obstetrician Ethan had personally chosen.
The doctor had released genetic testing results early and had received several transfers from a shell company.
Then Natalie uncovered something even worse.

Ethan needed Noah to exist legally.

“She’s really alive?” Vanessa whispered.
The moment Natalie confirmed it, Vanessa began to cry.
She admitted that she had seen Ethan push Claire.
But afterward, Ethan convinced her the storm had distorted what she thought she saw.
He threatened to accuse her as an accomplice and showed her forged papers claiming Claire was mentally unstable.
Vanessa also confessed that after the memorial, she found her own birth certificate and Margaret’s letter hidden inside Ethan’s office.
