Carrie Underwood is set to star as an “American Idol” judge for season 23. While she revealed that her return to the show has been smooth, some social media users criticized her appearance, seemingly unaware that she once underwent facial surgery for serious reasons.
On October 3, 2024, an entertainment publication released a video showing the “American Idol” judges and host reuniting with Carrie Underwood. Netizens who watched the clip focused on the country music singer’s changed looks since her last stint as a contestant on the show, leading to negative comments.

After seeing Underwood, many social media users had a similar reaction to her appearance, with one Instagram user complaining, “Too much filler and Botox 😮.” Agreeing with the previous commenter, someone else added, “Her face looks so fake now. 😥.”
A third person commented, “Its (sic) like they injected too much in the chin area/jowls or something?!” Someone else, seemingly concerned about the musician, lamented, “My god she can barely smile. Why did she ruin her face.” (sic)

Reacting in shock, an Instagrammer stated, “That does not look like Carrie Underwood. 😮.” Some Facebook users also reacted negatively to Carrie Underwood‘s appearance, with one user saying, “Holy moly, she’s (unfortunately) had a lot of work done. Makes celebrities look older than they actually are.”

A disappointed viewer shared, “One more beautiful girl ruining their looks with fillers and Botox. Her face is frozen. What a shame she didn’t just age gracefully. It hurts to look at her now.”

Yet, some die-hard fans were quick to support the star. One person, who saw Underwood in a different light, said, “She’s ageing (sic) gracefully, and still so beautiful.” Commenting on an Instagram photo of the vocalist alongside the other two judges, an excited fan wrote, “CARRRRIE!!! 🥹 looking stunning as always 🎀✨.”
Replying to the same picture, another person commented positively, saying, “Looking gorgeous as always Carrie (sic). Going to watch again because of you ❤️.”
In 2018, Underwood addressed an accident she had suffered that changed her appearance. While on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” she explained that she had to get 40 to 50 stitches after the incident. Ellen DeGeneres praised her appearance, saying she still looked beautiful.

The vocalist shared that she injured herself after tripping and falling up the stairs outside her home in 2017. Although her teeth didn’t get knocked out, the bottom ones got slightly chipped, but, the procedure to fix them wasn’t extensive.

The star managed to call someone to take her to the hospital and watch over her sleeping son. While DeGeneres didn’t think the musician looked different, Underwood responded, “I feel like I do a little bit.”
The celebrity only went public about the incident in January 2018 to avoid speculation when people saw her.
Later that year, the country star was asked if having a facial injury affected her confidence. The season 4 “American Idol” winner confessed that, initially, she worried about how she would look.

But now it’s more about perception because, “I see it quite a bit, but other people are like, ‘I wouldn’t have even noticed.'” She found comfort in learning that nobody looks at or notices you as much as you think.
Underwood addressed plastic surgery rumors, saying, “I wish I’d gotten some awesome plastic surgery to make this [scar] look better.” She tried not to worry too much about the speculation.
But her mother would ask if she saw what the tabloids were saying about her, and she would respond, “Mama, I don’t care. I’m just trying to raise my son and live my life.”

Seacrest recalled meeting Underwood when she was a contestant and the winner of the 2005 season of “American Idol.” The show’s host said he knew back then that the singer would become a big success.
Richie appreciated having Underwood back because they didn’t have to coach her on anything since she knew her way around. He felt she understood and related to the contestants better than they did because she’d been in their shoes before.
Underwood confirmed this, saying, “I know what they’re going through.” Adding his outlook, Bryan joked that having her return on the show as a judge made him worry that he might be on the chopping block, but his colleagues hilariously assured him he was safe.
