New York Giants appear to be trending away from QBs in first round of 2025 NFL draft

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen was tasked with finding solutions at quarterback by co-owner John Mara this offseason and thus far, he’s made progress.

Schoen has reeled in not one, but two veterans (Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston) via free agency and could add a third one in the 2025 NFL draft in a little over three weeks.

Speaking with reporters at the league meeting in Palm Beach, Florida on Monday, Schoen did not sound like a desperate man any longer. If the right quarterback is there when the Giants are on the clock at No. 3 overall, they will pull the trigger. If not, Schoen is willing to grab the best player he can.

“We can go any which direction,” Schoen said, via NJ Advance Media. “It doesn’t force you into a corner or force you to have to take something based on need.”

Schoen is wide open to any and all scenarios at this point. Ideally, he’d like to see Miami quarterback Cam Ward slip to No. 3, but that is highly unlikely. Tennessee, who hold the top pick, reportedly is smitten with Ward after his stellar pro day last week. Cleveland, who picks second this year, is also high on Ward.

That is today’s mindset. Who knows if things will change after Colorado’s pro day on Friday. Both quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy-winning two-way stud Travis Hunter are scheduled to work out.

“We’re in a position where we can take who we think is the best football player at that time,” added Schoen.

The Giants will also meet with Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, who is a Top 5 prospect. No matter how the draft falls, the Giants are going to land a superstar. Schoen is just lying in wait.
