Could Jets seek a trade with New York Giants for WR Jalin Hyatt?
Could the New York Jets, in search of wide receiver depth, possibly target Jalin Hyatt in a rivalry trade with the New York Giants?
ESPN insider Rich Cimini certainly thinks so.
During the latest episode of his Take Flight podcast, Cimini floated the idea of Hyatt to the Jets, arguing that the third-year wideout has become somewhat of a castoff in East Rutherford.
“The concerning part is, here we are in late March, and … the Jets have arguably the worst group of pass catchers in the league,” Cimini said, as transcribed by Sports Illustrated. “I mean, it’s Garrett Wilson and a whole lot of question marks.
“I think the Jets need to go out and sign a wide receiver. … The Jets haven’t made any bold moves at receiver.
“A name to watch … Jalin Hyatt with the Giants … could be the odd man out in that receiver situation, especially if they go out and draft like a Travis Hunter. … (Hyatt is) more of a vertical threat more than anything else.”
Hyatt, selected by the Giants in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft, has not developed into the star deep threat many expected. In 33 games (10 starts), he’s recorded just 31 receptions for 435 yards.
Hyatt was a non-factor in 2024 and, at times, expressed mild frustration with his role. However, the signing of quarterback Russell Wilson may lead to a career resurgence.
“I talked to Jalin Hyatt today a little bit, too. He’s a guy that’s been untapped in terms of what he knows he’s capable of,” Wilson told reporters on Wednesday.
Wilson is known for his deep ball passing and may be precisely what Hyatt needs under center to succeed.
Should the Giants pass on two-way star Travis Hunter in the 2025 NFL draft, it’s unlikely they’ll move Hyatt despite some of their other free agent signings.
