As a mom, video of the Bibas boys broke me. Where is the left’s outrage at Hamas? | Opinion
Where is the outrage from progressive members of Congress, from leftist groups on America’s college campuses and from liberal pundits who have so often condemned Israel while ignoring Hamas’ violence?
Hatred, evil and antisemitism were on full display again Thursday as Hamas returned the bodies of four Israelis, including two children, taken hostage by murderous terrorists on Oct. 7, 2023.
The youngest victim whose body finally came home was Kfir Bibas, only 9 months old when Hamas terrorists abducted his family. One of the oldest hostages was Oded Lifshitz, 83 when the terrorists invaded his community more than 16 months ago.
The third kidnapping and murder victim was identified as 4-year-old Ariel Bibas. The fourth body, initially thought to be his mother, 32-year-old Shiri, is an unknown person, the Israel Defense Forces said Thursday.
The faces of the dead should look familiar. A horrifying video, recorded and released by Hamas terrorists, shows the kidnapping of Shiri Bibas and her red-headed sons on Oct. 7, 2023. Bibas looks terrified as she holds onto her children as tightly as she can while terrorists surround her, shouting commands.
I’m a mother of two ginger-haired children. I have felt sick every time I’ve seen the video. I cannot imagine the horror and fear Bibas endured to try to keep her children safe.

Where is progressives’ outrage over Hamas’ brutality?
Where is the outrage from progressive members of Congress, from leftist groups on America’s college campuses and from liberal pundits who have so often condemned Israel while ignoring Hamas’ barbaric violence?
I hope to hear condolences and condemnation from the nine members of Congress who voted against a resolution supporting Israel and denouncing Hamas, shortly after Hamas’ sneak attack that killed about 1,200 people, including more than 40 U.S. citizens.
Hamas took 251 people hostage that day, including the four innocent civilians whose remains were brought home Thursday.
I expect to see empathy and outrage from the dozens of Democratic senators and representatives who saw the horrors of the Hamas attack, yet still asserted that Israel must bargain with murderers to end a war that Israelis did not start.
Opinion:Peace in Israel isn’t possible until Palestinians stop paying terrorists to kill
Can they now finally understand why Israel had to fight back against Hamas, a terrorist organization that ripped a mother and her babies from their home?
I hope that the journalists who last month were quick to label Elon Musk a Nazi for making a weird gesture during President Donald Trump’s inauguration are just as quick now to condemn Hamas terrorists for their disgusting barbarism.
5 Americans still held hostage
It’s also a time for American leaders to advocate for Americans. Hamas took 12 Americans hostage on Oct. 7, 2023, including five who remain at the mercy of murderers.
“Our hearts − the hearts of an entire nation − lie in tatters,” Israeli President Isaac Herzog wrote on social media about the transfer of the bodies on Thursday. “On behalf of the State of Israel, I bow my head and ask for forgiveness. Forgiveness for not protecting you on that terrible day. Forgiveness for not bringing you home safely.”
Those of us whose hearts also have been broken in alliance with our friends in Israel cannot condemn Hamas and antisemitism loudly or often enough. I hope that progressives in America will finally join us.
A mother’s babies have come home, their lives lost much too soon. The world is upside down.
